Five years ago Jamo launched its landmark Architectural series of CI speakers. Featuring our new ‘signature’ matte green finish these speakers took the Custom Installation market by storm. The intervening years have seen annual improvements in specifications, performance, additions and Why? Because the company, the market, technology and customer expectations had all evolved. ‘Good enough isn’t a phrase we’re ever comfortable with,’ says Lasse Hald, General Manager, ‘We always need to That’s why Jamo is launching three entirely new lines of CI speakers – the 800 Custom Series, the 600 Custom Series and the 400 Custom Series – designed 100 per cent in house, with drivers built to our exacting specifications and featuring all of the same key Jamo technologies that you will find in our domestic speakers (plus a couple of new technologies that you won’t). ‘We were determined to make these new models a showcase for Jamo’s loudspeaker expertise,’ says Mikael Ankersen, Jamo’s acoustic engineer, ‘and as such they had to incorporate all of the existing leading-edge acoustic technologies that we hold dear: WaveGuide, DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology), HCC (Hard Conical Cone), Centre Plugs... we’ve used them all.’ One of the most significant ones is SoundAngle. As the name suggests this technology allows a speaker to be mounted at either high or low position by a screen without compromising intelligibility. That’s because with a SoundAngle-equipped speaker, the angle that sound leaves can be altered so that instead of firing out horizontally the output can be angled 30 degrees down in the vertical plane. This rather neat trick is achieved entirely electronically, rather than mechanically, by virtue of the addition of a high-quality crossover that can be brought into action at the flip of a switch. ‘Other competitors may have systems that perform a similar function but I can guarantee you that no other manufacturer will offer products incorporating SoundAngle at the sort of affordable price points that we aim to hit,’ says Lasse Hald,’ when it comes to value for money we’re confident that we will continue to remain in a league of our own.’
The other key defining point of the three new ranges is the fact that they have been voiced so that they can be regarded as being in-wall and in-ceiling complements to Jamo’s freestanding speaker ranges. ‘Specifiers and owners will now be able to mix and match Jamo’s freestanding and CI speakers, says Lasse Hald, General Manager at Jamo, ‘They’ll be able to do so safe in the knowledge that they know their chosen products will work in harmony with each other.’ And for good reason. The drivers used in the 600 Custom Series speakers, for instance, are exactly the same ones that you’ll find the C 600 series freestanding speakers. Ditto for the 800 Custom series which employs the same woofers and tweeters used in its freestanding brethren. Navigating the different options in the two ranges will also be a lot easier now, thanks to a logical naming system that can be relatively easily decoded. For instance, in-wall speakers are designated IW, in ceiling speakers are IC. The numbers that follow will also signify key information. For instance an IW 625 LCR will sport 2 x 140mm/5½in drivers while an IW 608 will have a single 203mm/8in driver. ‘When it comes to speed of installation, the standard of service we’re going to give to installers and real-world delivery times, ‘concludes Lasse Hald, ’we think our new ranges will put us top of the game. ‘Factor in the best audio performance you’ll encounter in the Custom Installation segment and you can see why we’re confident all three of our new Custom Installation speaker lines will prove compelling propositions.’’ |
