The big Vegas names mentioned above are already established and thriving in Macau. Other names include Melco-Crown Entertainment Ltd. (NASDAQ:MPEL) who operate the Crown Macau and will soon open the massive City of Dreams. This complex comprises multiple casinos, over 2200 guest rooms and suites in Crown Towers, Hard Rock Hotel and a two tower Grand Hyatt. Many more large-scale five star hotels will come online over the next few years, adding an estimated 15,000 additional guest rooms.
Macau, a former Portuguese colony, is part of China, one of the only countries with an expanding economy despite the international economic downturn. Within a three hour flight radius of Macau lives a potential hotel clientele market of 1.3 billion people.
